The performer, careful to not look at the faces of the cards, takes the pack behind their back and manoeuvres a few cards to the top of the pack, out of sight of everyone. Bringing the deck back out, the performer turns the top card of the pack, and the second card. From these cards, the magician divines the colour, suit, and — finally — even the value of the thought-of card. The spectator confirms it is so. To finish, the deck is spread face up on the table and one card is turned face down in the middle of the deck.
